The piece is said to have been written on the spot during a radio broadcast in 1948, days after Gandi's assasination. There are multiple recording dates to be found of this song, and it is difficult to pin down when this particular performance was recorded. Tablaist Alla Rakha is considered to be among the great tabla players, and one of the more influential musicians in India.

Robert Burns birthday, a national holiday in Scotland, is January 25th. As we will unfortunately be tied up in Mozartean excess, I thought we might do a little Robert Burns here. If I had thought of this earlier, I would have done more Robert Burns. But I will try to take care of that for next year.

The first song is a cover of a Cure song from 1988 that the 'Tones performed (and recorded) live at a Cure tribute on MTV2 (or maybe MTVEurope) last year. This is an excellent rendition of this song, and was released as part of the B Sides and Rarities compilation. This compilation also includes a dvd that has an excellent video for Root, compiled from live clips.
