This is an interesting session that finds Kooper recently departed from Blood, Sweat and Tears, Stills just weeks away from joining David Crosby and Graham Nash, and Bloomfield being departed from his band, Electric Flag. Bloomfield and Kooper had worked together on various Bob Dylan tracks, and after this they would combine forces with a live album that is, along with this album, credited with being one of the classic rock albums of the late '60s. It Takes A Lot to Laugh..., a Dylan composition, was done by Kooper and Stills when Bloomfield had to exit the session after the first day, and Stills' guitar solo echoes the soloing style that we would later hear on the CSNY live album 4 Way Street. |
