Happy Easter!

It is Easter time, and as such my musical thoughts turn to how one best observes (musically) the Resurrection of Christ our Lord. While there are numerous works which fit our thematic thrust, nothing fits tonight's purpose quite like The Messiah. At once a work of great power and yet of sublime beauty as well, this setting of a collection of scriptures by Charles Jennens was started on 22 August 1741, and finished (250 pages later) on 14 September (this was actually his normal pace - Samson, with a score of similar length, was written during the following month).

Composer's name is listed where notable (i.e. Classical Performance, Jazz Performance).

For more information on any of the rock, pop and Jazz music featured on this program, I frequently utilize AllMusic , an excellent free database holding a huge plethora of information about music and the artists that make it.
