Another Requiem

This notion came to me last week as I was looking through a few things and found this lovely recording of the Requiem by Mozart

Composer's name is listed where notable (i.e. Classical Performance, Jazz Performance).

For more information on any of the rock, pop and Jazz music featured on this program, I frequently utilize AllMusic , an excellent free database holding a huge plethora of information about music and the artists that make it.

Composer Performer Title Genre Label Notes
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Christine Shäfer, Bernarda Fink, Kurt Streit, Gerald Finley, Concentus Musicus Wien, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, dir.
Requiem, K. 626
Classical, Classical era, works for chorus with solo voices and orchestral acc.
Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, 2004
An interesting recording on SACD. The main point of interest here isn't so much the music (a lovely recording of this great piece of music), but rather then enhancement, where an audio file of the Requiem is accompanied by software that flips through images of the original manuscript in time with the music. A most interesting educational experience, especially given the parts that are missing or that Mozart left only partially completed.
Buck Owens
Act Naturally
Country, Classic
Country Music Hall of Fame, 1988
A relaxed performance at Carnegie Hall that features the excellent close harmonies and ace guitar picking of Don Rich. Buck Owens in his element.

Decca, 1967
an alternate mix released in 2006
Cream
Outside Woman Blues
BBC, 1996
Two rather fetching songs from Cream that are hard for me to resist, especially this recording of Crossroads, where Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce form quite the musical combination underneath an exquisite Clapton solo, becoming more and more insistent and driving as the solo goes forward. Wow.
