What to do with all the extra time........

Subbing for Brent and his Lost Time Radio Show tonight, so we have a 4 hour slot.

Composer's name is listed where notable (i.e. Classical Performance, Jazz Performance).

For more information on any of the rock, pop and Jazz music featured on this program, I frequently utilize AllMusic , an excellent free database holding a huge plethora of information about music and the artists that make it.

Composer Performer Title Genre Label Notes
Dokken
Into The Fire
Metal, '80s, 'hair'
Elektra, 1984
One of the better metal/hard rock bands of the early-mid 80s. They put out some really good songs, a few of which are represented here. Alone Again is especially memorable - it caught my ear back in 1985, and remains a high point of the genre for the decade..
Just Got Lucky
Alone Again
Breaking the Chains

Bye-ya
jazz, post-bop
Blue Note, 2005
Recorded live at Carnegie Hall, 11/29/57, not released until 2005. Coltrane was just at the point of really discovering himself as a saxophonist, and this recording captures some remarkable playing on his part, as well as possibly the best partner that Monk every had.

Great new album from Interpol. It's been on my heavy play list at home for weeks.

Sun Ra
Strange Strange
Avant Guarde, '60s
1966, Saturn; 2007, Altavistic
The free jazz icon in a recording that goes beyong the strictures of jazz - this is completely experimental sound, pure and simple. I find the second track to possibly be even more interesting than the first, as Sun Ra and his Arkestra explore the musical possibilities of a squeaky door, with some stringed instruments and percussion added into the background.
