Horn Concerto No. 3 in E Flat Major, K. 447 |
Classical, Classical era, music for solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment |
EMI, 1955 |
Dennis Brain was a phenomenal horn talent who was unfortunately killed in an auto accident in 1957 at the age of 36. His recordings of the various parts of the horn repertoire, including material written for him by Benjamin Britten and Paul Hindemith, are considered to be landmark horn recordings, and his recordings of the 4 Mozart horn concertos are considered to be the definitive recordings of the works. |

Cab Calloway and his Orchestra |
St. James Infirmary |
Jazz, Big Band, early Swing era |
Brunswick, 1930 |
While Cab Calloway was a noted entertainer, he also made sure to have quality musicians in his band, including the young Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Hinton, Quentin Jackson, Lester "Shad" Collins, among others. Notice his interjections during solos - does this not remind one of Bob Wills, the King of Texas Swing? (or, maybe, Bob Wills reminds one of Cab Calloway....) | |
