Welcome back, Alice in Chains...

Premiering the new Alice in Chains album. As always, we like to mix new in with old.

Composer's name is listed where notable (i.e. Classical Performance, Jazz Performance).

For more information on any of the rock, pop and Jazz music featured on this program, I frequently utilize AllMusic , an excellent free database holding a huge plethora of information about music and the artists that make it.

A lovely, emotional piece of music commissioned in 1944, with the score dated March 31, 1945. This was Strauss' last major work, and was written in mourning for the destruction of Germany, specifically the opera houses of Munich. The more well-known version of this work was scored for 23 strings (and I have played renditions of that edition on the show before), but this here is an earlier version, scored for septet, that was lost and only rediscovered in 1990.

Two separate lineups here, with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke (a supreme bassist) being the only constants. Joe Farrell, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira are heard on the first song, and they are replaced by Bill Connors (g) and Bitches Brew alumnus Lenny White (d) for the second.
