from the 1998 remaster of the "Made in Japan" live album, probably one of the great early live rock albums. This album helped Deep Purple make a breakthrough in the US, and made Smoke on the Water a hit single.

O dulcis Jesu, BuxWV 83 |
Classical, early Baroque era, sacred vocal music with instrumental acccompaniment |
Naxos, 1997 |
Buxtehude was one of the more influential figures in North German music, and one of the chief influences on the young J.S. Bach He served as the organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, in what is now the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. While he was never required to write vocal music, he did so anyway, leaving at least 120 pieces, almost entirely sacred, that cover a wide range of styles and require a wide range of vocal and instrumental forces. I found this recording in particular to be quite compelling. |

Crucial live Miles, recorded March 7, 1970. Wayne Shorter left the group 4 days after this performance to form Weather Report with Joe Zawinul (Bitches Brew veteran and composer of Directions). Imagine the impact that this had on the audience members who had come to see Neil Young, and the Steve Miller Band (Davis was opening for both). !!!!!!
