The Galaxy Playlist

The Concert Season cometh quickly!

Celebrating several upcoming shows. Rush announced a date at Verizon Amptheater on August 22 last week, and As I Lay Dying also announced a show at the Pageant for July, with UnderOath and several other promising bands also on the bill. Add this to the already announced Lamb of God date at the Mayhem Festival (with Hatebreed, former Galaxy regular Korn and multiple other bands), and this makes for an exciting summer. Then, add to that the potential for a date from recently reformed Soundgarden (no tour announced, but they did play a show in Seattle last week, and they apparently are going to tour; St. Louis was a place they always enjoyed playing, apparently).

Composer's name is listed where notable (i.e. Classical Performance, Jazz Performance).

For more information on any of the rock, pop and Jazz music featured on this program, I frequently utilize AllMusic , an excellent free database holding a huge plethora of information about music and the artists that make it.

Written in 1886 and published in 1889, Satie named the set of 4 piano miniatures after the curve the forms the outline of a pointed gothic arch (such as that found in the Notre Dame cathedral, which are said to be part of the inspiration for the piece). Satie wanted the piece to evoke the sonorities of a pipe organ playing in such a space.
