Jean-Pierre Duport was a noted cellist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a young cellist during Mozart's era who was also acquainted with Beethoven. His cello was a Stradivarius that was later named after him, and until recently was in the possession of the late cello master Mstislav Rostropovich. The cello carried a small dent in the ribs made by Napolean.
